5/15/05
Riverdale, NY -
Manhattan College senior and TCB Alum Gary Diaz
became Manhattan's Career Hits Leader this afternoon in the Jaspers'
10-3 win over LeMoyne. Diaz tallied his 207th career hit on a two run
single in the second, as the Jaspers posted a 10-3 MAAC win over Le
Moyne this afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. The win, the Jaspers eighth in
their last nine games, improves Manhattan's record to 25-17 overall and
13-7 in MAAC play, moving the Jaspers into third place in the conference
standings with one week remaining in the regular season. The Dolphins
fall to 24-19, 14-8 in MAAC play.

After a scoreless first, Diaz's record breaking hit, a frozen rope into right
field, plated John Maser and Matt Nevins to give Manhattan a 2-0 lead. The
Jaspers doubled that lead in the third, as Nunzio Franzese and Nevins
each tallied RBI singles to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Jaspers.

Former TCB players now occupy 2 of the top 3 spots on Manhattan's
Career Hits List.  Diaz has 207 and counting and Wendell Anderson is 3rd
with 201 hits.

Upon the conclusion of the season, Diaz will be returning to Connecticut
and TCB as an Assistant Coach for the 18/u American Team.  Diaz played
for TCB from 1997 to 2002 and is one of only 15 players to have earned
the Lifetime Dedication Award.

the team won TCB's second National Championship.  In 1999, Diaz was
named the National Tournament MVP as a 15 year old on the 16/u
National Championship Team.  He was named an All American again in
2001 as the 18/u Americans finished 3rd and was named an All American
a 4th time on the 2002 18/u American team that was the National
Runner-Up, becoming TCB's only 4 time All American

Diaz is the 18/u Americans Single-Season leader in At-Bats with 150 and
Stolen Bases with 24.  He ranks 2nd in Games Played (44), Runs Scored
