Joe Ercolano named to
Freshmen All-American Team
6/10/05
Bethlehem, PA
– Lehigh freshman outfielder Joe Ercolano has been
named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, as
announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.
Ercolano becomes the third Lehigh player to garner such recognition,
alongside pitcher Jack Muscalus (2002) and catcher Matt McBride (2004).

Ercolano made quite a debut in 2005, earning All-Patriot League first team
recognition.  As Lehigh’s everyday center fielder and leadoff hitter,
Ercolano led the Patriot League with a .422 batting average.  That mark
currently ranks tenth nationally (as of June 6, 2005).  Ercolano also led the
Mountain Hawks in hits (62), slugging percentage (.565), and on-base
percentage (.488), and he tied for the top spot in runs scored with 34.

This summer, Ercolano is one of four Lehigh baseball players playing for
the Quakertown (Pa.) Blazers in the ACBL summer collegiate baseball
league.

Lehigh wrapped up the 2005 season with a 26-21-1 record.  The 26
victories rank second all-time in school history.  The Mountain Hawks also
made their fourth consecutive appearance in the Patriot League’s
postseason tournament, another first for the school.

Ercolano becomes the 4th TCB alumni to earn Freshmen All-American
Honors.  He joins Adam Greenberg (Guilford, CT/University of North
Carolina), Juan Serrano (Naugatuck, CT/Norfolk State University), and
Jamie D'Antona (Trumbull, CT/Wake Forest University). D'Antona was
names National Freshman of the Year in 2001.
