13 South wins 2005 RYO 4th of
July Tournament

TCB 13U South are the 2005 RYO 4th of July tournament champions. The
weekend tournament took place from Friday through Monday on Long
Island. The Blue Jays were a perfect 6-0 on the weekend, scoring a total of
63 runs and hitting .388 (66/170) as a team. The Blue Jays won their way
through the qualifying round of the 10 team tournament by beating the
Farmingdale Green Dogs 13-5 and the LI Baymen 9-7. Cather David
Goldblatt was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and DH Jeff St. Pierre was 1 for 3
with a run and 3 RBI against the Green Dogs. P Matt Keene took the win
on the hill. CF Carlos Ramirez had 2 for 2 with 2 triples, 2 runs, and 1 RBI
against the Baymen. P Jimmy Hill was the winning pitcher. SS Johnny
Pritts was 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBI.
Sunday saw the Blue Jays take on the LI Pirates. 2B Eric Anderson
exploded with 2 for 2, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI in a 15-1 win. P Johnny
Pritts won the game on the mound and C Zack Moser was 3 for 3 with 3
runs. The Jays then took on the Port Jeff Titans in the nightcap and won
9-7, coming from behind to earn a 2 seed in the championship round. In
an emotion filled contest, CF Carlos Ramirez went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and
1 RBI. LF Dan Minnes had 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI in P Kevin
Dubanoski's quality start. P Zack Moser took the win in a gutsy relief
performance.
Monday, the #2 TCB Blue Jays took on the #3 Ronkonkoma Cardinals and
won 7-3 behind a great pitching performance by Carlos Ramirez. P Eric
Mollo came on in the 6th to earn a 2 inning save. C David Goldblatt led the
way into the championship game with 3 for 3 including 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Later in the day the Jays played the #1 seeded LI Panthers for the
championship at the PAL Sports Complex in Holbrook, LI. TCB fell behind
early 6-1 but did not give up as LF Dan Minnes had a huge RBI double in
the bottom of the 2nd to bring the Jays back to within 2. Trailing 8-5 going
into the bottom of the 6th, RF Brett Dootson drew a leadoff walk to start the
Blue Jays' championship rally. PH Johnny Pritts then came off the bench to
deliver an opposite field single giving the Jays runners on 1st and 2nd
with nobody out. SS Steven Loschiavo then sacrificed the runners up a
base each with a flawless sac bunt. 2B Eric Anderson then drew a walk to
load the bases with 1 out. After a flyout by LF Dan Minnes, CF Carlos
Ramirez drew a walk to put the tying run at 2B with 2 outs. EH Zack Moser
stepped up to the plate and delivered a 2 strike outside fastball into the
right centerfield gap, clearing the bases and giving the Jays a 9-8 lead. C
Jeff St. Pierre then delivered another opposite field single, giving the Jays
an extra insurance run going into the top of the 7th. P Jimmy Hill closed
out his gutsy performance on the mound to earn the victory in the
championship game.
