3/1/07 - Snow is falling yet again in the Northeast, but two former TCB players are on the baseball field in sunny Arizona. Jamie D'Antona and Steve Bray followed different paths through collegiate baseball, with D'Antona attending Wake Forest University in North Carolina and Bray remaining in Connecticut at the University of New Haven. Their professional paths are more similar, with both of them currently competing for spots on the Major League rosters of their respective teams.
With only two days of Cactus League games played to date, both D'Antona and Bray have appeared in games. D'Antona is 1-4 with an RBI for the Arizona Diamondbacks while Bray has pitched 1 inning with 0 hits and 2 strikeouts.
Bray and D'Antona spent the 2007 season in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. Bray went 5-2 on the mound, mostly appearing in relief. He threw 77.2 innings with a 1.62 ERA and was named a PCL All Star. He has 73 strikeouts to only 26 walks and held opponents to a .211 batting average for the Nashville Sounds.
D'Antona hit .308 last season for the Tucson Sidewinders. He had 149 hits, 61 for extra bases, including 13 home runs. In 128 games, D'Antona led the team with 86 RBI's.
Stay tuned for more updates throughout spring training!
