Tournament MVP Brett Burnham hit a grand slam and pitched four hit less innings in relief, leading the Connecticut
Mariners to a 9-8 victory over the California Yankees Saturday in the championship game of the AAU National
Tournament for 13-year-olds in West Des Moines, lowa.

Burnham of South Windsor homered in the first inning for a 4 - 0 lead. He pitched the final four innings in relief of John
Orefice to earn the victory.

Connecticut beat California. 11 - 10 Friday in the winners bracket final. The Yankees reached the title game with a 2 - 1
victory over Indiana Saturday morning in the losers bracket final.

With the Mariners leading 6-4 in the third, Steve Tierrini of East Hartford and Kevin Hadfield of Glastonbury each drove
in a run and Mike Panaroni of Clinton hit an RBI double to put the Mariners up, 9-4.

Burnham, Orefice of Southington, shortstop Adam Greenberg of Guilford and outfielder Wendell Anderson of East
Hartford were named All-America.
