The Connecticut AAU 13 and under baseball team finds itself one game away from a national championship following
an 11 - 10 win over the California Yankees on Friday night in West Des Moines, Iowa.

The Connecticut team is scheduled to play the championship game at 2 p.m. today. The California Yankees and the
Indiana Bulls are scheduled to play today at 10:30 a.m. to determine which team Connecticut must face in the
championship round.

"They're awesome," Connecticut manager Rich Armstrong said. "We have accomplished a lot by beating them. We are
now assured of at least a silver medal in our first time in the tournament."

Connecticut scored runs in the first five innings in support of starting pitcher Dan Henry of Mystic. The team took a 1 -
0 lead in the first on a single by Adam Greenberg of Guilford and a sac fly by Kevin Hadfield of Glastonbury.

Connecticut added four runs in the second and third and single runs in the fourth and fifth. Bob Tyler of East Hartford
struck a big blow with a bases loaded singled in the third.

Down 11-2 after five innings, California came back in the sixth and seventh. The Yankees scored seven runs off
Henry, who gave way to Chip Rourke in the sixth. California scored one run and put the tying run on third before
Rourke got a fly out to Brett Burnham of South Windsor to end the game.

"It's unbelievable," Armstrong said. "The Yankees are so scary. They have who throw like American Legion players
and every player in their lineup is capable of a homer. But we can play too."
