In 25 years of practice as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jacobson uses seasoned judgment when assessing orthopedic injuries. “I think it’s important to have a balanced view, to know when to operate and when not to operate,” he explains. “I try to give patients a realistic expectation of what to expect from surgery. Surgery is essential to maximized recovery for many orthopedic injuries or conditions, but there are a great many things that can be handled conservatively as well.”

In Dr. Jacobson’s office are framed photos of him and his wife enjoying outdoor activities with their three grown children. He speaks about orthopedics from the point of view of both a physician and a patient – he has had several knee and shoulder surgeries himself and expects to have a knee replacement in the future. “My knee gives me another reason to take the time to sit down when I talk with my patients,” he says with a smile.
