Bob founded Team Connecticut Baseball in 1994. The organization that began with one 13u team in 1994 grown to 20 teams in 2008. Bob has coached on 3 TCB National Championship teams, 1994, 1997, and 1999. He is the current General Manager of TCB and is also the President of the Connecticut Baseball Academy, a major sponsor of TCB.
In his 14 years of coaching with TCB, Hetu has coached a number of players that have played both professionally and collegiately. The first TCB 13u team had 4 future draft picks, including Wendell Anderson, Steve Bray, Brett Burnham, and Adam Greenberg.
Bob was a coach on TCB's first ever team in 1994. They went to the AAU National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa that summer. A group of 18 players from across the state of Connecticut came back with TCB's first National Championship. Brett Burnham was named National Tournament MVP and Wendell Anderson, Adam Greenberg, and John Orefice were named National Tournament All Americans.
In 1997, Hetu was a coach on the 13u team that once again brought the gold medal back to Connecticut. TCB travelled to Oklahoma, and behind National Tournament MVP Kyle Wirtz, and All Americans Gary Diaz, Jeremy Balisciano, and Greg Zurlis, TCB was National Champion once again.
In 1998, Hetu coached with the 13's once again, heading to the AAU National Championship in Lowell, Massachusetts. Eric Rosario and Chris Fournier were named All Americans as the team finished 4th Nationally.
In 1999, TCB returned to the spotlight in Oklahome. Bob was a coach at the USSSA World Series led by National Tournament MVP Gary Diaz, that brought home the gold medal. Steve Emmerthal, Jeff Ford, Brian Cavanaugh, Kyle Wirtz, and Schuyler Mann were named All Americans.
The 2000 season led Hetu to the 15u team and a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee. The team earned a 5th place National Finish. They were led by All Americans Jeff Mainetti, PJ Louchen, and Billy Rankin.
The 2004 season saw Bob return to the 13u age group and a trip to the AAU National Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team earned a 3rd Place National Finish, led by All Americans Andy Barbalich, Mike Desrosiers, and Spencer Roy.
Bob is also currently the Connecticut AAU Baseball Director, a volunteer position he has held for the last 14 years. Bob has also spent time as an Associate Scout with the Kansas City Royals. He has coached at all levels of baseball, including State Championship Little League teams with East Hartford, to High School positions with Glastonbury High School and the Loomis Chaffee School. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and has worked as the General Manager of the East Hartford American Legion program.
