Coach Hunt enters his 12th year of affiliation with Team Connecticut and the Connecticut Baseball Academy. In addition to serving on the Executive Committee (Chairman), he has been a coach at various levels over this span of service. The majority of his coaching has been at the 18U American level, including the 1999 18U National Champions. In 2007 he served as the pitching coach for the 14U Hartford Team. He works numerous clinics and assists at advanced camps throughout the year.
Over the past 4 years Coach Hunt has been a member of the Showcase staff for Perfect Game, USA. Through his affiliation with TCB, Gary works all the Northeast Showcases as an “on field” coach, fungo hitter and BP pitcher.
Professionally, Gary worked under Gary LaRocque and Dick Teed as a contact scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1994–1996.
Growing up in West Hartford, CT he was a catcher/pitcher and Captain of Conard High School. During his college career he pitched at Springfield College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978.
Coach Hunt has been involved in all levels of baseball in his hometown – West Hartford, CT. For over 30 years he has coached, been a board member, president and treasurer of various leagues in town. Additionally, he serves as the Coordinator of the Cooperstown Trip for the Travel A Team 12U. Since 1996 he has served on the Board of Cooperstown Dreams Park.
As Co-Head Coach of West Hartford Post 96 American Legion Baseball (1997-2004) Gary helped lead the resurgence of the program. For the first time in 30 years, Post 96 won a Zone Championship in 2003. His service to American Legion Baseball was capped by receiving the 2005 prestigious “Commanders Award” marking the first time it was ever presented to a baseball coach.
Gary resides in West Hartford, CT with his wife Kathy, who also serves on various TCB committees. Kathy can also be seen at many Perfect Game Showcases assisting with registration and various other duties. They are the proud parents of daughter Dana and son Steve, who is a TCB alumnus and 2007 graduate of Springfield College.
