Coach Kennedy spent 10 years as
the Head Coach of the 18 & under American team and enters his 12th year as the
TCB 18 & under Director. He started the 18 & under program in 1996 and has
compiled a lifetime record of 353 wins, 162 losses, and 2 ties.
In his 10 years of coaching the 18 & under
Americans, Dan saw a number of his players drafted and go on to college careers.
Three of Kennedy's most prominent players include: Jamie D'Antona, who went to
Wake Forest and earned All-American honors, became a 2nd Round Draft Pick, and
spent 2007 in Triple-A with the Arizona Diamondbacks; Steve Bray, who played at
University of New Haven, was drafted twice, and spent 2007 in Triple-A with the
Milwaukee Brewers, including being named a Triple-A All-Star; and Adam
Greenberg, who played his college ball at North Carolina, was ACC Rookie of the
Year, and garnered the first appearance in a Major League Baseball game by a TCB
alum with the Chicago Cubs.
In 1997, his team posted a
record of 33-23, while playing in USA Baseball Junior Olympic Games and the
prestigious NJBL (National Junior Baseball League). In 1998, the team finished
10th Nationally at the AAU National Championships and posted a
record of 29-8-2.
In 1999, the team's current run of success began. The 18 &
Under team won the USSSA World Series in Cocoa Beach, Florida, finishing with a
#1 National Ranking. The team compiled a record of 29-4 on their way to the
title. At the National Tournament, they went 8-0, beating their opponents by a
combined score of 86-6. Dan was named the All-Tournament Team Manager.
In 2000, the team finished in the Top Ten again, finishing
4th at the CABA World Series in Homestead, Florida after compiling a record of
34-7. They returned to Homestead in 2001 for the CABA World Series and finished
3rd with a season record of 30-10.
In 2002, the team again traveled to the USSSA World Series,
this time in Jupiter, Florida. The team came out of the loser's bracket,
finishing as the National Runner-Up in what Kennedy called "the most competitive
tournament I've ever been to." The 2002 team finished with a record of 29-18,
with a 3rd place finish at the East Cobb Classic in East Cobb, Georgia, and a
5th place finish at the Liberty Tournament in New York.
The 2003 team finished 7th Nationally after competing at the
USSSA World Series in Lexington, Kentucky. The team won the 2003 Fiori
Connecticut Super Series, beating the Keene, NH Legion Team 26-7 in the
championship game. The team went 4-1 at the East Cobb Showcase in East Cobb
Georgia, 3rd at the Bama Bomber Invitational in Troy, Alabama, and 3rd at the
Liberty Tournament in New York.
The 2004 team continued the success of
the 18 & Under American team, compiling a record of 32-14 and finishing 5th
Nationally at the BEST Baseball World Championships. They won their 7th
consecutive Super East Baseball League Championship and also captured the
Inaugural Connecticut Cup.
In 2005, the 18 & Under
American team competed at the Perfect Game BCS North Qualifier, earning a spot
in the quarterfinals. They spent 17 days on the road in July, advancing to the
playoffs at the Perfect Game WWBA 18u National Championship in Marietta,
Georgia. They continued on to Nashville, Tennessee for the SANDLOTT World
Series, where the team went on to a 4th place National Finish.
In 2006, Dan’s position within
the program changed as he was named the Northeast Supervisor for Perfect Game.
This led to an abundance of opportunities for the TCB program and most
importantly, for the TCB players. He remains as the Director of the TCB 18 &
under Program, but no longer coaches on-field during the summer.
Dan played his High School baseball at Attleboro High School
(Massachusetts) where he was a 4 year varsity catcher, 2-time all-state catcher,
and 3-time all-area catcher.
Dan played his collegiate baseball at Community College of
Rhode Island, where he was a 2-year starter as a catcher. He was named All-New
England as a sophomore, the same year the team finished 3rd at the Junior
College World Series.
After his sophomore year, Dan signed as a free agent with the
Chicago Cubs on August 22, 1988, and was with the organization until his first
rotator cuff injury. He then signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1991, but
tore his rotator cuff again prior to spring training. His injury ridden career
came to an end with the Boston Red Sox in May of 1992 when he tore his rotator
cuff a
third time.
In 1992 he officially retired as a
player and in 1994 opened the Connecticut Baseball Academy where he is the
Director of Baseball Operations. Dan is a Lifetime Member of the Association of
Professional Baseball Players of America. He is also a Lifetime Member of the
Minor League Baseball Alumni Association. Dan is a 12-year member of the
American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and is the Super East Baseball
President and League Commissioner. Dan is also the Northeast Regional
Supervisor for Perfect Game USA.
