Branford, CT — TCB 13U New Haven salvaged the July 4th weekend tournament at the Sportsplex in N. Branford by taking a double-header on Saturday to win the consolation bracket. After losing the first two contests of the tournament on Thursday and Friday, the team bounced back with a dominating performance by Zach Daidone on the mound. Daidone took a perfect game into the 5th inning against Team USA out of Massachusetts and finished with a 2 hit, complete game shutout, striking out 4 on the way to a 7-0 victory. The offense was impressive as well as the top of the lineup led the way. Alex Sato was 1-3 with a run scored, Mike Paonessa was 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs, and Luis Serrano went 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 rbi. In game 2, the Team Connecticut Blue Jays dominated yet again, beating the CT Starters 13-0 in a mercy rule game that lasted 4 innings. Ryan Estrella continued his impressive pitching by throwing a no-hitter with 4 K's. Estrella has given up just one hit in his last 11 innings pitched. The hitting was stellar yet again as every player in the starting lineup reached base and scored at least 1 run. Adam Pratson went 1-1 with a walk and a HBP, scoring 2 runs and driving in 1. Enzo Cardillo went 1-2 with 2 runs and 2 rbi. Ned Wood was 1-2 with a walk, a run, and an rbi. The Jays will be in action this week on Wednesday as they take on the CT Starters in Hamden and Friday against the CT Storm at UNH.
