| I write this with a heavy and broken heart. On Monday Night, January 26, 2004 at approximately 9:30pm we lost one of our own. Michael Zabroski died on his 21st birthday from head injuries that he sustained when he was struck by a car as he was crossing a street. Michael never knew what happened and the Doctor's said "He never felt one ounce of pain." All of you that know Michael would have been proud of him as we were year after year while he wore a Team Connecticut uniform. He fought and fought until he just could not fight any longer. As always, we are all extremely proud of him and honored to be a part of his magnificent life. His dad, Coach Zabroski, said last night at the hospital . . ."Two of Michael's proudest moments were that he was honored to be part of Team Connecticut and that he was in the starting line-up in the 1999 National Championship game." Those of you that knew Michael, and were lucky enough just to get one of those great big bear hugs every time he saw you, or just have the opportunity to speak with him as he smiled through every sentence know that it was all of us who were honored to be included and be part of Michael's life. As we were leaving the hospital Coach Zabroski remembered another thing that Michael was extremely proud of . . The fact that Michael is one 13 players out of 500+ that received the Team Connecticut Lifetime Dedication Award. Coach Zabroski made it known to the entire family as they waited in the hospital waiting room for some news that his Team Connecticut Jersey still hangs proudly in his bedroom. We all must pray for Pete(Dad), Maritza(Mom), and Danielle(sister) as this is a tragedy that none of us can fully understand. Dan Kennedy, Bob Hetu and Pete Zabroski have arranged to set up a scholarship program in Michael's name. Pete has been adament that this is what Michael would have wanted. Pete has also requested that in lieu of flowers please send all donations to: Team Connecticut Baseball, Inc. c/o the Michael Zabroski Scholarship Program 525 Burnside Avenue East Hartford, CT 06108 In Michael there was not a better son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend, or teammate. I now understand why we love our Team Connecticut program so much . . .To be lucky enough be touched by someone like Michael Zabroski. Thank You Mikey. Coach Kennedy |
