| Six former and current TCB players helped the University of New Haven baseball team capture its first NYCAC Tournament Crown. Justin Vincent (Longmeadow, MA) was named tournament MVP. Along with Vincent, other former TCB players on the squad are Ryan Kosiba (Bristol, CT), Nick Faragasso (Sewell, NJ), TJ O'Leary (Bayside, NY), and Ryan Aiken (Enfield, CT). The only current TCB player is Mike Reeder (Export, PA) who will play for the 18 Americans in 2004. The Chargers defeated the Dowling College Golden Lions, 14-5, in the championship game of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament played at Vieira Field in West Haven, CT on Sunday. UNH junior leftfielder Justin Vincent went six-for-six with five RBI’s, a home run, a double and three runs scored in the championship game to lead a New Haven offense that had 19 hits in the win. Vincent (Longmeadow, MA) was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, as he went 12 for 22 (. 546 batting average) with 10 RBI’s and one home run in the five games the Chargers played in the tourney. New Haven shortstop Ryan Kosiba (Bristol, CT) had three RBI’s in the title game. Designated Hitter Ryan Aiken (Enfield, CT) added 3 hits. Freshman Will Hill (Woodbridge, CT) picked up the win in relief for New Haven to raise his record to 4-0. Jason McCorry (3-1) took the loss for Dowling. The Golden Lions forced the tournament into a winner-take-all game on Sunday, when they scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to post a 5-1 win in the day’s first game. New Haven is now 25-9 overall, and Dowling is 31-15. Both teams will await word from the NCAA on Monday to see if they will move on to the NCAA Division II National Baseball Championship Tournament. |
